This Is It / This Is It - The Contract
« on: February 28, 2010, 07:32:50 AM »
Some perhaps notable things appear to stand out on the contract that Michael signed to enter into the deal with AEG that he would perform a tour...

1) The contract is addressed to Dr. Tohme
2) There is no date (or the date has been removed)
3) The contract states that the ArtistCo agreed upto a number of 31 shows at the O2 in London, England between July 26th and September 30th 2009 (notice the start date? not July 8th)
4) The contract clearly states that the artist must perform a minimum of 18 shows in the first leg of the tour (being the O2 in London, England) (Why start with 10? why not 18?)
5) "The artist shall use his best efforts to maintain a possitve public perception of the artist and shall not conduct himself in a manner that will negatively impact the reputation of the artist or promoter"
6) Section "Broadcasting and Recordation Opportunities" Blanked Out
7) The "Force Majuere" Section
8) Contract sent to The Michael Jackson Company att. Dr. Tohme Tohme, with aditional copies sent to Dr. Tohme Tohme and Dennis J. Hawk (an entertainment lawyer in LA)
9) The two Different signatures of Michael Jackson? (representing the company and the artist)
10) Doesn't mention the name of the tour

Other Odd Things / Jermaine only person Authroized to make Statement?!
« on: February 23, 2010, 03:13:08 PM »
After Jermaine made his statement to the press at the UCLA briefing, Dr. Tohme continued with an additional statement in which he said the following...

"I would like to make an additional statement please, that uh, Jermaine Jackson is only, the only spokesman for the Jackson family. There is no-one else is authorized to make any statement on the family behalf except Jermaine Jackson. Thankyou very much."

Also somewhat related to this topic and also on the UCLA Newsroom webiste it says this "Jackson died Thursday at the medical center, according to a statement released by his family." - only according to the statement hmm?

I've never heard of this person, I think she's an actress or something, but she has written an account of the scene outside UCLA in the moments after Michael's 'death' was announced. There is a video which accompanies this and shows the firetrucks outside the hospital when the alarm was sounded. It's somewhat interesting...

It was a really sunny day in LA and we were riding to Malibu Beach when our friend called and told us Michael Jackson died 5 minutes ago! We happened to be right next to UCLA medical center where he was taken right after his cardiac arrest. We snuck into the UCLA Medical Center building. We went in the back door, up the elevator, back down, and out the front door, where the UCLA Medical staff, fire men, and security guards were creating a decoy scene of his body being taken away to distract the media. We walked through the chaos and saw two choppers leave and realized that they may have taken him out the back door. We were totally shocked and saddened to loose not one but two legends of our generation in the same day! We left and went to Malibu, listening to Michael Jackson songs on every radio station the whole way, celebrating Michael and Farrah’s lives and appreciating ours!

What a key sentence in the middle?

Included with the HMV Exclusive edition of the DVD are 3 3D Picture cards which are "Replica Back Stage Passes" for the concerts. Although the design on the back is the VIP replica ticket part, the image on the front is simply a still taken from the concert rehearsals, they wouldn't have been the actual image used on the ticket.

MJTIISC.jpg[/attachment:2brfksfz]
MJTIIVIP.jpg[/attachment:2brfksfz]
(The quality is not that good because these are scanned 3D cards, the actual effect is really cool. They are different to the actual concert tickets in size and design. The concert tickets containted moveable characteristics, these are layered 3D and as such don't move, although they are made in a similar way)

Brian Oxman was questioned by a gaggle of media as he tried to get to the CNN News Truck to give a proper interview on the 25th June 2009. Here is a full list of the Q&A's he was questioned about... I've highlighted what I think are some of the more interesting answers. (The first section seems to be before the 'death', the second, after) (This is a transcript, a link to the video is at the bottom)
(M=media, O=Oxman)

O- They are very sad
M- Is Joe here yet?
O- Joe is not here yet
M- Is any other members of the family here?
O- Michael's brothers
M- Do the children know about what happened to their father?
O- No, Not that I know of
M- Where are they right now?
O- They're with the nanny
M- Here in Los Angeles?
O- Here in Los Angeles
M- Where they in the home? (when it happened?)
O- They were at home, yes
M- So they saw their father when he had his heart attack?
O- Uh, No, They didn't
M- They did not see him?
O- Not that I know of...
M- It took too long to call 911, is that true?
O- I Haven't heard a single thing about that and I do not know
M- Who was with him when he was found?
O- ...........That I do not know, I do not know who was there with him
M- Do you know who called 911?
O- Uh, from what I was told, Frank DeLio called 911, but that is not confirmed, I don't know

(O- I Need the CNN Truck... Direct me to the CNN Truck)
O- I don't know what the situation is, I only know that Randy and Jermaine cried terribly and they were just very upset and Speechless, they weren't able to tell me anything!, we just cried, we hugged and we cried
M- How many doctors are treating him right now?
O- I do not know

M- Is his father here?
O- Mr Jackson is not here, Joe Jackson is not here
M- Is he on his way?
O- Joe is on his way here
(Inaudable question - answer "I do not know")
M- Are you going to stay here?
O- I am going to stay here until something definitvie is said, I just DO NOT KNOW
M- (Inaudable question, maybe about the family?)
O- (with a rye smile) No, no, no, he has kept that secret and i don't know

M- Do you think it's (*affecting?*) with Farah Fawcett's passing?
O- Uh, I can't say that for sure, I know that he loved Farah Fawcett, I do know that he is in difficult condition and everyone is just heart broken, they're crying and no-one has told me anything except this is what we've experienced, we've been worried about Michael, because of what usage of medication, we were warned that there was going to be a problem, here we have a problem, we do not know what the result of this one will be.

O- (on the phone) the media.. this is absolutely Wild!

M- Brian, what can you tell us?
O- I just know that I saw Randy Jackson, we cried together, we hugged, he was Speechless, he was unable to even talk. I saw Jermaine Jackson, I hugged him, he was Speechless... The communication is that this is just so very sad, Michael is my friend, he is..... he's been my compatriot the whole, he's been my compatriot for 20 years, they are my friends, I love them and I'm just heartbroken
M- Brian, tell us what is going on inside the hospital?
O- The family is just very sad, they're together, they're not saying anything, they aren't doing anything, they are simply hugging one another and uh uh this is just one of the saddest occasions and the music of Michael Jackson has been every ** Off The Wall, here at UCLA it has been one of the most surreal experiences of my life. I've never seen anything like it and the fans here who are so extrodinary, they love this man. I love this man, he was my friend.
M- So the family is gathering inside the hospital, will they be joining a hospital *(briefing?)* outside the hospital?
O- I don't know, I don't know what the plans are, I don't know what the folks will be doing. It's just, it's chaotic and it's difficult for anyone to do anything
M- More members of the family are beginning to gather?
O- Yes they are, Joe Jackson is on his way here
M- He's not yet arrived?
O- Not that I've seen so far, but it's been pretty chaotic and we've been so affraid
M- What do you want the world to know?
O- Oh, there has never been anyone like Michael Jackson in showbusiness (M-we know that) and I know we know that! It has been an extrodinary experience with this man. I've been with them when their children have been born, I've been with them when their former wives passed away and now with Michael I was with Michael at the darkest hours of his life when the charges were made against him which I knew were absolutely wrong, this man was innocent, I proved that he was innocent, HE Proved that he was innocent and yet now we have this, this is just, this is, and it hurts me to the core of my heart
M- This is a close family, a large family, they are together, they are comforting eachother at this hour?
O- They are hugging one another and the words are not coming, there are no words for which they can even say what they feel. The hurt is just overwhelming and the sadness is more than I can bare.

O- I'm not going to say anything, i've been asked not to, I'm not going to correct anybody, or say anything one way or another, just that i'm heartbroken

M- (Inaudable Question)
O- I don't know, I promised to see (it? or him?) and I would speak to them... Son of a Gun! (answers phone)

O- ...Jackson, I'm just heartbroken, I'm sad beyond description as to whats happened here, we've been warning that there were problems with Michael's care and medications and here we are, we're sad beyond description. The family is speechless, I saw Randy Jackson, I hugged him, he couldn't even talk to me, he just cried, I saw Jermaine Jackson, I hugged him, he couldn't even talk to me, he just cried
M- What plans do they have?
O- I do not know what the plans are

I've been looking at the Prefix list for cases and it would appear to me that the case number doesn't exist?

For a general jurisdiction case, which I assume this is? The first letter indicates the District and the second letter indicates the Case Type.
Murray's case number is SA07316401.

So 'S' = West (District)
but 'A' = ???? There is no Case Type beginning with 'A' under the general jursidiction cases, so this would mean going to the Limited Jursidition cases... but it would appear for this that the only cases for LD are Civil, Small Claims and Unlawful Detainment.

There are only two 'A''s listed here, one is Civil Case in Chatsworth and the other is Small Claims in Santa Monica...

So Murray's case number doesn't exist in short, unless someone knows more about how this works.
It should be
SS07316401
SC07316401
BC07316401 or
BS - 07316401

(B = Central (District) S = Special Proceeding (Case Type) C = Civil (Case Type)

I've found another 2 death hoaxes related to Michael Jackson. The first reported in the press 10th June 2005 says ....

"AN EMAIL which claims Michael Jackson has killed himself is tricking Internet users into downloading a computer virus - disguised as his "suicide note".
Experts at virus busters SophosLabs say those sending the infected messages are preying on the intense interest in the controversial popstar's trial in a bid to cause harm.
The spam emails arrive with the subject: 'Re: Suicidal aattempt' and a message which starts: 'Last night, while in his Neverland Ranch, Michael Jackson has made a suicidal attempt."
It then tells users to click a link in the email to read the star's final note but this really logs onto a website infected with a Trojan horse that can spy on someone's computer habits and steal information such as passwords.
Carole Theriault, security consultant for Sophos, said: "If you click on the link, the website displays a message saying it is too busy, which may not surprise people who think it might contain genuine breaking news about Michael Jackson.
"However, this is a diversionary tactic - because behind-the-scenes the website is downloading malware onto the user's computer without their knowledge.
This is not the first time the troubled pop star has been exploited by virus writers and hackers attempting to cause mayhem.
In October 2004, messages were posted on the Internet claiming that incriminating home videos belonging to Jackson had been discovered - but clicking on the link infected web surfers with another Trojan horse.
"The sick minds behind viruses and other malware often exploit celebrity names and news stories in an attempt to infect as many people as possible," Ms Theriault added.
"All computer users should be very careful about clicking on weblinks in unsolicited email or launching unknown attachments."

The other, which is much more spooky considering the current circumstances, was published in the press (notably The Ledger) 21st April 2004, and says the following

"Suicide Reports A Hoax"
"Fans of pop superstar Michael Jackson were left devistated on Friday by false reports the troubled singer had commited suicide, IMDB.com reports.
The reports which were later revealed to be a hoax, emerged on a London-based website which ran the headline: "Breaking News, Musician Michael Jackson found dead."
It was claimed Jackson had suffered a heart attack after overdosing on sleeping pills.
After the rumour reached the United States, a spokesperson for the singer insisted, "It's a lie - Michael is safe and well. This is just a rumour that came out of London; we are not happy about it at all."

(So this one actually got back to the Jackson camp and maybe Michael himself, perhaps he was so upset by this he decided he would do something to teach the people a lesson about hoaxes, it might also explain why he chose London to make the This Is It concerts and comback?! (Just a thought))

Michael Jackson News / MICHAEL JACKSON TO TESTIFY IN MURRAY'S DEFENCE!?!
« on: February 07, 2010, 07:08:40 AM »
"Michael Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray will reportedly use old video footage of the pop legend as defence against the manslaughter charges against him.

Lawyers for Dr. Murray want to use footages of a spaced-out Jackson to demonstrate the depth of his drug habit, News of the World reported.

The personal physician is set to stand trial on an involuntary manslaughter charge for administering propofal to Jackson shortly before his death in June last year.

Key videos will include footage of a frail Jackson during his This Is It rehearsals and a 2007 court deposition where he discusses his pain medication.

“Murray’s legal team have quietly but steadily been building a robust defence case. A key element will be on-camera interviews Michael Jackson gave where he discusses and admits his drug use and others where he appears to be intoxicated,” said a legal source close to Dr. Murray.

“In effect, Michael Jackson himself will be the defence’s star witness as they set out to prove he was a seasoned and habitual user and knew how to self-administer,” the source added.

The lawyers also want the pop icon’s children Paris and Prince to describe how their father constantly complemented Dr. Murray and claimed that he was “making him better”."

WTF!! Can this be true?!!

"Key videos will include footage of frail Jacko during his This Is It rehearsals and a 2007 court deposition where he discusses his pain medication.
The defence will also show images from 2004 where he slurs his words and appears drunk in rehearsals for a film role at his Neverland home library. Jackson's sister La Toya is furious that Murray is contesting any charges - and has urged cops to push for a murder case.
A legal source close to Murray, who will be charged in an LA court tomorrow, said: "Murray's legal team have quietly but steadily been building a robust defence case.
"A key element will be on-camera interviews Michael Jackson gave where he discusses and admits his drug use and others where he appears to be intoxicated.
"In effect, Michael Jackson himself will be the defence's star witness as they set out to prove he was a seasoned and habitual user and knew how to self-administer.
"The interviews and other evidence aim to show that Jackson had been addicted to prescription drugs for at least 15 years.
"They will try to prove that Jackson was in poor health and therefore the build-up of drugs and the effects of further doses were increased tenfold because of a weakened system.
"For these reasons, they will say Murray is not culpable and should therefore be found not guilty."
The News Of The World revealed last year how Murray claimed Jackson, 51, was an expert in running IV drips, including one for the drug Propofol - which he overdosed on.
LaToya - who famously told us last July that she felt Jackson was murdered - spoke out after Murray returned to LA last week to surrender to cops.
She said: "He should be charged with murder, not manslaughter. It is terribly wrong."
Brother Jermaine, referring to Jackson arrest on child abuse charges, added: "Murray should be cuffed, he should be fingerprinted, he should have his mugshot just like they did my brother!
"It's all on the doctor. It could be first-degree murder, it could be whatever - Michael's not coming back, so where's the closure?"

Crypt
Last week Murray visited Jackson's crypt at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
He was seen walking up to the doors then sitting down on a wall outside as he paused for reflection.
A Jackson family insider said they were "shocked and upset" that Murray went to the star's final resting place.
The insider added: "It just seems like a calculated PR stunt before he's brought to trial."
Currently the LAPD and the district attorney are arguing over how Murray will enter court, either as a volunteer or in handcuffs. He is likely to be given $25,000 bail.
Sources say Murray could avoid a trial by plea bargaining a deal to a suspended sentence with a guilty admission.
Last night a spokesman for Dr Murray had no comment."

UCLA / Who Broke the News to the Family? Frank vs Randy vs Murray!
« on: February 06, 2010, 09:48:41 AM »
Who was it who broke the news to the family in the hospital that Michael had died? Frank DeLio seems to think it was him:  -

"As Michael Jackson’s manager Frank DiLeo walked down the white linoleum-tiled floor, he knew he had to impart the most devastating news of his life.
He explains the moment he realized that Michael Jackson wasn’t going to make it. “When the nurse came out and I looked at her and she looked at me, I almost fainted. She just looked at me and said he's not going to make it. He's gone. But we'll keep working on him until his mother gets here.” That nurse was the first one to tell Frank DiLeo that Michael Jackson was dead.
Walking into the family waiting room at the UCLA Medical Centre, DiLeo was greeted by the sight of Michael Jackson’s three children – Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II.
Michael Jackson with his eldest children Prince Michael and Paris
As he shook his head, DiLeo said: ‘I’m sorry children, your father has passed away.’
A split second of silence followed before Paris screamed: ‘No, no, Daddy. No, no!’
Last night, DiLeo told how the ‘outpouring of emotion is something I shall live with for the rest of my life’. He said: ‘It was the single most painful moment of my life. I cannot tell you how difficult it was. Those children just fell to pieces. The emotions poured forth.
‘Michael’s mother Katherine was with them. They were waiting there together for news.'

That's one story of his, here's another -

"He stated, “I had to tell Katherine first. And I told her with a doctor and a social worker. And it was pretty emotional. She grabbed me and cried and we hugged and cried together. And then I had to tell the children. In the meantime, I called Joe Jackson in between. But he'd already known. I gave him my sympathy, and I went in and told the children.” Frank DiLeo also said, “It was very difficult. I went in with a social worker and a doctor. And just had to say -- they knew, they knew. And they got up and I said, I'm sorry, but your father's passed away. And they hung on to me for a while. We all cried.”

 HOWEVER AEG CEO Randy Phillips seems to think it was him: -
"Phillips says his next move “is to try to get the images out of my mind of that Thursday I spent at the hospital when Michael died, and telling his kids and his mom." - - - - "Philips said he was left to inform Jackson’s children about the singer’s death after his parents got lost on the way to the hospital.
“A nurse came out and said, ‘Where is Mrs. Jackson?’ Michael’s parents weren’t there yet — they’d gotten lost,” he said.
“They’d gone to St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica.”
Philips added: “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever lived through. I’ll never forget the look of fear in their faces.”

 The Third Man Conrad Murray - It would appear (through the report for the Search Warrant) that he assisted in informing the family...
"Murray observed the treatment to Jackson at UCLA Medical Cener and assisted in notifying the family after Jackson's death was pronounced. Murray left the hospital after a while because he did not know that he was needed." - (At this time according to Randy Phillips, Murray was in a 'complete state')

Who do you believe has the better story? Frank, Randy or Murray? These men have played big parts in this from the beginning and it would appear that they're not on the same wavelength.

"VH1 is returning to the scene of some of pop culture and music’s most shocking deaths with Famous Crime Scene.  The first episode will take an in-depth look at the murder of Tupac Shakur. The additional six episodes will investigate the untimely deaths of Biggie Smalls, John Lennon, Anna Nicole Smith, Selena, Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson. The seven episode half-hour series is set to premiere on Friday, February 12 at 9pm.

While news accounts tell only part of the story, VH1 has rounded up the witnesses and investigators who were there to give viewers the intimate details from the initial 911 call to the investigators’ final determination to help piece together what really happened.  Using expert interviews and true-to-life reenactments, as well as advanced computer graphics, viewers will witness full recreations of these historic events.  They’ll tour virtual crime scenes searching for clues and learn the science behind the investigators’ findings: ballistics, fingerprints, DNA evidence, toxicology, profiling and more.

Nearly 100 stars from Movies and Music joined together to remake we are the world last night and the whole experience was "documented in 3D video", using green screen, 3D cameras and several other technologies. The idea behind the video is to allow people to put themselves into the video, via a special online upload, and join the "We Are The World Family". Michael Jackson's children were invited to the recording, but as of yet it's unsure whether they are going to be included, their part was going to be to narrate a special poem at the end of the song, which Katherine Jackson asked poet Maya Angelou to write.

We're all familiar with the video and picture of Michael behind the camera at the end of Liberian Girl video and also the picture where Michael is behind the camera with Kenny O during This Is It. Now they are recording a new version of We Are The World, Lionel Richie tells us that Michael would be behind the scenes, rather than out the front.

"I know it's hard to believe, but if Michael were alive, he'd be standing behind the scenes... He would actually be behind the scenes, doing exactly what I was doing, just supporting and making sure everyone,. remember now this is another generation where we don't have that little circle, where we steped into the microphone and did our parts, you know this is an interesting., we had to capture them the way they are used to being recorded, so it was very interesting to pull that together tonight."

Quincy Jones says that "they are taking the song into the 21st century, because people get used to a song like that and they need to hear new voices and a lot of surprises...a lot of surprises. [Interviewer - "is it a little bittersweet because we're paying tribute to Michael tonight..."] We're taking care of that too.. we're taking care of all that.. [Interviewer - "Oh, so Michael will be in it somehow, someway?.."]  We've got it all covered, definately." - With this in mind it is rumoured that Michael's original vocals will not be featured, so this could be part of the surprise Q was talking about. Janet Jackson is recording seperately and sending her vocals, whereas the Jackson trio 3T were included in the studio recording.

It appears also, that along with Quincy and Lionel, Lady Gaga's producer, Red One is looking after the beat and mixing of the track, which has an almost hip-hop feel to it. It was Red One who recently said that he had worked with Michael recording brand new material and was hoping to release it sometime soon.

The song is due to premier during the opening ceremony of the Olympics, February 12th.

These are the lyrics to Muse's song Uprising. After reading about the Illuminati theory, I was wondering whether this song may have been written about them. I think it was originially intended as something like an alien invasion or something crazy like that   , but it could easily carry a hidden message.

"The paranoia is in bloom,
the PR transmissions will resume
They’ll try to push drugs to keep us all dumbed down
And hope that we will never see the truth around

Another promise, another scene,
another packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed
With all the green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Interchanging mind control
Come let the revolution take its toll if you could
Flick the switch and open your third eye, you’d see that
We should never be afraid to die

Rise up and take the power back, it’s time that
The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that
Their time is coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious"

A death certificate is the official document that declares a person is dead. Death certificates serve two purposes: they prevent murder cover-ups by restricting those who can complete them for non-natural deaths to trained officials who generally have great latitude on whom they perform postmortem examinations, and they provide public health statistics. In the United States, Great Britain, and most industrialized countries, physicians must now sign a death certificate listing the presumed cause of death. Otherwise, a medical examiner (forensic pathologist) will intervene with an autopsy to determine the cause of death in the event that a case requires police investigation.

People use death certificates in multiple ways. Survivors need death certificates to obtain burial permits, make life insurance claims, settle estates, and obtain death benefits. Public health departments look for patterns that may signal specific health problems, such as clusters of cancers that may reveal unknown toxic waste dumps.

There are three types of death certificates in the United States, including a standard certificate, one for medical/legal cases, and one for fetal or stillborn deaths. All but two states require a death certificate for fetal deaths. However, the majority of states only require a certificate if the fetus was past twenty weeks of gestation. All are based on the international form agreed to in 1948 (modified for clarity in the United States in the 1990s). This form lists the immediate cause of death (e.g., heart attack, stroke), conditions that resulted in the immediate cause of death (e.g., gunshot wound to the chest), and other significant medical conditions (e.g., hypertension, atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, or diabetes). The form also includes a place to record whether an autopsy was performed and the manner of death such as natural, accident, suicide, homicide, could not be determined, or pending investigation.

Death certificates are occasionally used to fake a person's death for insurance fraud and to evade law enforcement officials or irate relatives. "Official" Los Angeles County death certificates, for example, were readily available in the mid-1990s for between $500 and $1,000 each. For fraudulent purposes, people have often used death certificates from remote nations and from countries in turmoil.

To complete death certificates, funeral directors first insert the decedent's personal information, including the name, sex, date of death, social security number, age at last birthday, birth date, birthplace, race, current address, usual occupation, educational history, service in the U.S. armed forces, site and address of death, marital status, name of any surviving spouse, parents' names, and informant's name and address. They also include the method and site of body disposition (burial, cremation, donation, or other) and sign the form. The responsible physician must then complete, with or without using an autopsy, his or her sections of the certificate. These include the immediate cause(s) of death; other significant conditions contributing to the death; the manner of death; the date, time, place, and mechanism of any injury; the time of death; the date the death was pronounced; whether the medical examiner was notified; and his or her signature. The death certificate then passes to the responsible local and state government offices, where, based on that document, a burial permit is issued. The death certificate, or at least the information it contains, then goes to the state's bureau of vital statistics and from there to the United States Center for Health Statistics.

Funeral directors often struggle to obtain a physician's signature on a death certificate. In an age of managed-care HMOs and multispecialty clinics, they must not only locate the busy practitioner for a signature, but also identify the correct physician. Survivors cannot bury or otherwise dispose of a corpse until a licensed physician signs a permanent death certificate or a medical examiner signs a temporary death certificate. Medical examiners (or coroners) list the cause of death as "pending" until further laboratory tests determine the actual cause of death. Except in unusual cases, disposition of the remains need not wait for the final autopsy report, which may take weeks to complete.

After the death certificate has been signed, local authorities usually issue a certificate of disposition of remains, also known as a burial or cremation permit. Crematories and cemeteries require this form before they will cremate or bury a body. In some jurisdictions, the form is combined with a transportation permit that allows the movement or shipment of a body.

Only about 12 percent of U.S. physicians receive training in completing death certificates, and less than two-thirds of them do it correctly. Several do not appear to believe that completing death certificates accurately is very important.

Many certificates are meaningless because physicians complete them without knowing the real cause of death. Listing "cardiopulmonary arrest" signifies nothing—everyone's heart and lungs eventually stop. The important point is why? An autopsy is often needed to answer this question. Occasionally, autopsy, pathology, or forensic findings appear after a death certificate has been completed. If it is within three years of the death in many jurisdictions, the original physician-signer need only complete an amended certificate to correct the record.

Disguising deaths from alcoholism, AIDS, and other stigmatizing causes of death on death certificates is widespread. This practice appears to be more common where medical examiners' autopsy reports are part of the public record. For this reason, some states may eliminate the cause of death from publicly recorded death certificates.

Physicians obscure information on some death certificates to protect a family's reputation or income, with listings such as "pneumonia" for an AIDS death or "accidental" for a suicide. Even before the AIDS epidemic, one researcher found that in San Francisco, California, socially unacceptable causes of death frequently were misreported—the most common being alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, alcoholism, syphilis, homicide, and suicide.

Physicians who complete death certificates in good faith are not liable to criminal action, even if the cause of death is later found to be different from that recorded. Fraudulent completion to obscure a crime or to defraud an insurance company, however, is a felony.

Occasionally, fake death certificates appropriate real people's identities. Such false death certificates are especially distasteful to victims of this fraud who are still alive and whose "death" causes officials to freeze their assets, cancel credit, revoke licenses, and generally disrupt their lives.

Death certificates and other standard legal papers surrounding death normally cost between $1 and $5 each.

Michael Jackson News / Grammys will stage 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson
« on: January 20, 2010, 06:45:34 AM »
"NEW YORK – Last year, as the Grammys were approaching, the show's executive producer was in frequent talks with Michael Jackson to appear on the telecast to celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Thriller."

Ken Ehrlich, the Grammy telecast's co-executive producer, had presented several ideas for performers, including Justin Timberlake and Usher, all of which excited Jackson. But in the end, he declined the show's invitation.

"He just wasn't ready for it," Ehrlich said.

This year, Jackson will be a focal point of the show, with an unprecedented posthumous tribute. The Grammys will broadcast a 3-D clip the singer made for his hit "Earth Song," a video that was to be integral to his comeback concerts in London in July 2009 — shows that never happened because of his June 25 death in Los Angeles.

Usher, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson will perform alongside the clip, which Ehrlich says will be the first time an awards show will feature 3-D.

"Whenever we would do a show with (Jackson), the first thing he would say to me was, `How can we do something that we (have) never done before?' And now we're doing something that hasn't been done before," said Ehrlich, who worked with Jackson for almost 30 years, in an interview Tuesday.

Ehrlich produced the televised memorial to Jackson last year. He was with the singer the night before he died — and that's when he first saw the 3-D clip of "Earth Song," a call to action about the destruction of nature and animals by man.

"There are these incredible images of the beauties of nature, and then they are seen through the eyes of a little girl, and that girl falls asleep and when she wakes up, she is witness to the destruction of nature," said Ehrlich. "It's all about questioning what our values are."

While a part of the clip was shown in the recent movie documentary "This Is It," Ehrlich says the Grammys will show the full piece in 3-D. When he saw it with Jackson that night, Ehrlich said the singer was moved to tears.

"It was pretty emotional for him," Ehrlich said. "Afterward he said to me that that song and that piece and that portion of the concert was as important to him than anything else in the show."

Ehrlich decided to use the five-minute 3-D clip at the Grammys to produce a show-stopper worthy of Jackson, who provided the awards show with some of its most memorable moments, including his then-historic eight Grammy wins in 1984.

"The promise is this is going to be pretty spectacular," he said.

Viewers can get free 3-D "Grammy" glasses from Target stores nationwide from Jan. 26 through Jan. 31, when the 52nd annual Grammy Awards will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS (8 p.m. EST). Ehrlich says TV viewers can see the clip without the glasses, but won't see the 3-D effect.

Jackson will be honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy during the show.

"This is the one award from us that Michael never received," said Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow.

Portnow said he expected Jackson's family to be in the audience but their attendance hasn't been confirmed."

"GRAMMY winners Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood, and Usher will join together, along with the voice of Michael Jackson, in a moving tribute to Jackson at the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, Jan. 31. This very special GRAMMY Moment will feature the never-before-seen 3-D mini-movie for "Earth Song" that was created by Jackson as the centerpiece of his much-anticipated This Is It tour, but was never seen by the public prior to this GRAMMY performance.

The 3-D film was created to support the performance of "Earth Song," an original composition and a No. 1 hit for Jackson. The song has a strong theme about the future of the planet, and Jackson saw it as a unique opportunity to deliver a message to millions of people who would have seen him on tour.

"It was one of the most important portions of the concert tour to Michael and when Michael saw the film for the first time at his last rehearsal, there were tears in his eyes," according to Ken Ehrlich, GRAMMY co-Executive Producer and longtime Jackson associate, who was also at the rehearsal that night.

"This very special GRAMMY Moment will feature some of our most respected GRAMMY recipients, all of whom have a great love for Michael," added Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "This segment promises to be an emotional highlight of this year's show, and is sure to join the unique list of amazing performances for which the GRAMMY Awards have become renowned."

This special segment also represents another GRAMMY technical breakthrough in that it will be the first time a major awards show broadcasts in 3-D. The GRAMMY Awards also were the first awards show to broadcast in high definition and 5.1 surround sound (2003).

So that viewers can enjoy this unique 3-D TV experience at home, CBS and Target have partnered to provide millions of free 3-D GRAMMY Glasses. From Sunday, Jan. 24 through Sunday, Jan. 31, Target stores nationwide will exclusively offer these 3-D GRAMMY Glasses so that fans have the opportunity to see the film that was very personal to Jackson. Additionally, the audience at Staples Center will share the 3-D experience, wearing the same glasses as those being worn by viewers at home."
