Title: Italian singer claimed Jackson stole bassline from his song
Post by: mjlover77 on March 23, 2010, 03:28:55 PM
Apparently MJ took parts from Albano Carrisi song "Cigni di Balaka" and created "Will You Be There"
I've never heard of this but the songs do sound very similar.

Albano has been the last years inventing whatever to be on the tabloids.
What a pitty, he would have been respected more if he didn´t.

This went to court years ago in Italy.  I believe Michael won in the lower Court and Mr. Carrisi was order to pay costs to  everyone involved.  He appealed and I think Mr. Carrisi won.  The lyrics are not the same, but sections of the compostion are.  That was the judges issue in the higher court.  Michael said it was coincidental and had been inspired by a song in the 30's.  I don't know in which court he said what.  I haven't confirmed that he said it was inspired by a song in 1939 or looked at the composition for that song.

And I want to repeat something I said before about the Paul Anka issue.  In the copyright office only Michael is listed for that song.  I had thought previously that I saw both Michael and Paul there HOWEVER, In the BMI database Paul and Michael are CO-AUTHORS of that song and to my knowledge always were in that database as such.  I remember looking it up before.  And I don't know who submitted the paperwork to BMI. So how this got on the copyright app with just Michael, I don't know.  Who knows what went down between Michael and Paul, but I personally don't believe that Michael deliberately stole a song that he co-wrote with Paul.

I agree with you - I don't think Michael stole any song either. For Paul Anka, this last year was like winning the lottery. There are many songs that sound similar - that doesn't mean it was stolen. I feel bad that Michael had to deal with all of this in his life. He couldn't just be left alone. I'm thinking that when the next album comes out that I might skip giving my money to Sony and just send my check directly to the children.

This is an old old story guys, I am Italian and I remember that very well! Albano didn't win even if he still claims he did. He didn't win.

There is a funny freak in Spain that says that he wrote Thriller in 1969, completelly I mean, but the title was "Exorcismo". They both were born in the same day, so he wrote it when he was 10 and sent it to MJ.

He also claims that he knew MJ in the Xth century, when his name was Paolo... and a lot of other things to laught to death. Not necessarily at him...

Sorry, because many of you can´t understand it but who understand is going to ROFL.

This is the videoclip (and it´s universal):

Well, the author of Thriller, Rod Temperton might have an issue with that.  How old is this video?

I guess this is old news.
I found some vids from 2006 and 2007.  There may be more.  I don't speak Italian, only French so searching would be a pain in my south end.

Hi, This is a link to a blog about this in English.  Read the whole page.  Some of it's a hoot.  I listened to the MP3 that was on there and I have to agree with one of the posters there [actually more than one] that this wasn't the original recording.  So maybe rerecorded.  On you tube he shows a registration document. Is the document fake?  Is the whole allegation fake?  Did this ever go to court?  And if not, why did this person wait so many darn years?

he probably did it unintentionally or the label gave him a melody to work with to set him up...he did this with Billie Jean by the way...the beginning, the "whoo whoo, whoo woo," and the beginning music is from a Hall and Oats song.  In that case MJ told them  he did it...after the fact...LOL!  This happens all the time...  http://timesonline.typepad.com/comment/2009/07/was-billie-jean-a-stolen-song.html

As far as I remember "Thriller" is supposed to be inspired by some Alice Cooper song and appearances from the mid seventies ... (sorry, have no link but I am pretty sure).

And the werewolf theme might be referring to his then diagnosed lupus (= latin for wolf) ...

Inspiration is miracle - especially with Michael and his magic fantasy ....

I can't imagine traveling the world, listening to other music and not have that bleed into your creative thought. Can you imagine how many melodies Michael had heard by the time of the writing of this song. It had other legal issues too. Beautiful song. It is sad now though

Will You Be There" was the subject of two lawsuits. The first was the result of a lack of credit to Beethoven for the use of his symphonic prelude. The suit was filed by Sony for 7 million dollars and was settled out of court. Subsequent printings of Dangerous have included full credits in the album booklet. The second lawsuit was a claim of plagiarism by Italian songwriter Albano Carrisi. Carrisi claimed that "Will You Be There" was copied from his song "I Cigni de Balaka" ("The Swans of Balaka"). After seven years, an Italian court ruled in favor of Jackson and ordered Carrisi to pay all legal fees.[5]

Michael is too much of a genius to steal music, whether it be lyrics or sound, from someone else.  His talent is so one of a kind, that no one could ever touch or even come close to touching.  It saddens me that people would do this to him.

First of all do not know why they should take old news now, Albano lost know that demand second manipulation of the Italian news channel, why they draw pictures of Michael way to court at trial that horrible, .. I do not wish to comment, .. ! garbage!

That has to do something with the other?
