Willow Smith is like a young Michael Jackson!
September 23, 2010, 06:09:04 PM
Hmm what do you guys think? She's is a very good singer/rapper LOL

Jay-Z: Willow Smith is like a young Michael Jackson
Jay-Z has dismissed claims Will Smith’s nine-year-old daughter is too young for a record deal, likening her to a youthful Michael Jackson.

Willow Smith has signed to Jay’s Roc Nation record label, and her first single Whip My Hair is already available to view online. The track was watched more than 100,000 on video sharing website YouTube within a day of being posted on the site.

Some people have criticised the decision to allow Willow – Will’s daughter with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith – to record music due to her age, but Jay insists it isn’t a problem.

“I heard the record first before I knew that it was recorded by a nine year old and I was like, man that record's a smash. I believe in superstars. I believe in big records and in superstars and I think [Willow] has both,” the hip-hop star told Ryan Seacrest in a radio interview.

“She has a child's innocence but she has a clear vision of who she is and who she wants to be. I can only imagine that's how Mike [Michael Jackson] was as a young kid, he knew exactly what he wanted. When you have that sort of talent, there is no such thing as too young.”

Jay added the first time he met Willow she told him she was nervous, which impressed him. He likes people to be open and honest with him, and thinks she showed “maturity” by admitting she was worried.

He likened Willow to Rihanna, who Jay also discovered. It’s not the first time the young star has been compared to the older singer – Willow’s edgy sense of style and shaved haircut have led many to believe she looks up to Rihanna.

Willow is taking her new career in her stride, and has spoken about the meaning of Whip My Hair.

“It means just be an individual. Like, you can't be afraid to be yourself, you have to be yourself, and you can't let anyone tell you that that's wrong,” she told Ryan.

“My mom teaches me to say how I feel all the time. My mom and me are very strong individuals and I just know that, because lots of people, they don't act like themselves, so they're not happy."

Sun comes up on this new morning
Shifting shadows, a songbird sings
And if you feel alone, I'll be your shoulder
With a tender touch, you know me so well
Somebody once said, it's the soul that matters
Baby, who can really tell when two hearts belong so well

 She's a carbon copy of her dad! He never has to worry the kid might not be his, that's for sure!

This gave me the creeps though. She is a lovely kid and beautiful as well, but she doesn't sound like a 9-year-old at all. This worries me and Jay-Z working with her worries me even more. This kid needs to go to school, have a normal life, grow up and come back when she's ready. **alarmbells**

Agreed, on all counts.  She really has such a great energy about her; I really hope she doesn't lose that.  Contrary to what Jaz-Z says, there just might be such a thing as too young.  I guess only time will tell.  But boy, she really does sound a lot like Rihanna.

She should have a carefree childhood. There's time to do the career thing when she has the maturity to handle it.

I guess Will and Jada have not payed attention to what Michael has gone through, I guess we need to send them a copy of MJ's song Childhood.  :(   She should treasure these years, they fly by.

LOL - I couldn't get through the song. I guess that dates me :) But, she has a good voice. Very strong for her age but then look at her parents.

I don't think Will or Jada experienced the negative aspect of Hollywood. None of us really know what they are thinking but to me it appears that they've done a great job raising Willow and her brother. Time will tell if the values they've instilled in her will be strong enough to withstand the tides of stardom. I pray they will.

Me too. She's adorable though. Maybe if she has kind supportive parents and they don't allow the music industry to push her too hard maybe it will be postive for her, but ...
If that's her dream she has to follow it.

Oh gosh.
It seems like Jay-Z wants to be the Joe Jackson to Willow's career.
The girl better be careful with that she's getting into.
Yes, edgy clothes... Auto-tune.. But where's the authenticity? Or the "Young MJ" characteristic everyone's raving about? :s I sure don't see it.

I agree. I hope she gets a normal childhood.

like everyone has said and i agree with all..way to young  needs school and to be a child!!..
i seen her interview with Ryan seacrest...she seems to have very good manners and is well spoken and seems grounded..
i don't think that her parents have ever been in the spot light for something negative or have been put thru a lot during there time in Hollywood..unlike our Michael has..were they blind to what all has happened to our Michael and all he has and is going Thur his whole life??!!...i wont dog on her or her family since i do not know them..i think she said she likes rihanna and you can tell..hell if i didn't know any better i would had thought that rihanna was the one that sang that song lol..there voice does sound close to both..anyways...my gut never lies and i do not get a good feeling about this and who sign her to a record label??!!..the man himself..jay z....
was it TS who asked if i was scared yet!!??
well i am now!!!
huggs n faith n love to all

Because nothing happened to Will Smith and his wife, they feel that they are safe with their daughter. Which is very wrong. This child needs to be a child, and also do what little girls do. ( go shopping with mamma) lol. Play with barbies, be with friends. This is healthy way of growing up, not what they are doing to her. What is that hair cut? At that age they save her head on one side? I wouldn't do that to my daughter.  Schooling is the number one factor.  She has parents, and they want to raise her that way, who are we to speak our mind! They should take a an example from MJ, and it is free!!!!

I love her song actually i have it as a ringtone...but i think she acts to mature for her age...but to hell with it cause in show biz you have to be a bada$$ especially when u have a famous father and mother.

Jay Z said we were listening to Michael Jackson's albums when he was 8. Were we? That would mean he recorded an album in 1966. He didn't record anything we were listening to in 1966 did he?
